Georgian De L’Etoile Lowenstein Gallucci

Georgian De L’Etoile Lowenstein Gallucci

JULY 29, 1933 – DECEMBER 24, 2025

Georgian De L’Etoile Lowenstein Gallucci made her transition peacefully and in fact, with elation Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at the age of 92. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, stepmother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, Nurse, Chaplain, and friend.

Georgie was the oldest of 6 girls growing up in Westwood, Massachusetts. She was head cheerleader at Westwood High School and went on to study Nursing at Keuka College, graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1955. This is part of what was written about her in her college yearbook: “Georgie, a combination of the mischievousness of a firecracker and the energy of a small A-bomb is one of Strong Hall’s finest. Add to these characteristics a warm, outgoing personality, sincerity, and friendliness and you have a surprising mixture……to us she remains a dear and loveable friend.”

Later that year she married Erwin Lowenstein, set up house in Philadelphia, and started a family. They moved to Iselin, NJ, then Cherry Hill, NJ, all the while she worked full time as a Nurse. In 1966 they settled in Putnam Valley, NY. By then their children, Jay, Helene, and David had completed the family. In Putnam Valley, Georgie started working at Peekskill Community Hospital, with a short stint as the School Nurse at Putnam Valley Central School. At Peekskill Hospital she worked her way up to Charge Nurse on Brillinger and Supervisor in ICU. She retired from Nursing after 42 years. Her “retirement” didn’t last long as she went right back to work as a volunteer Chaplain at Peekskill Hospital for another 20+ years. One of her proudest moments was when her daughter, Helene, decided to follow in her footsteps, becoming a Registered Nurse and starting her career at Peekskill Hospital.

Georgie lived her life with strong faith. She was raised in The First Baptist Church of Westwood and became a pillar of The Grace United Methodist Church in Putnam Valley. She oversaw Sunday School and was the President of the United Methodist Women’s Organization for many years.

After her first marriage ended, Georgie met Joseph Gallucci. The lore is they met at a single’s gathering and it was the first time each of them had ever attended one. In any case, it was a match made at The White Swan. They were married and blended their families, bringing another daughter, Laura, to the Lowenstein/Gallucci family.

Georgie loved spending time with Helene and her family in Cortlandt Manor, NY. She loved travel, visiting Jay and famNY, spendingsgivings, getting out of the winter down in Florida visiting Laura and family, seeing her son, David in shows on Broadway and regional theaters and visiting his family in Cazenovia, NY, spending time with her sisters, going to Keuka College reunions, and visiting the property in Maine she inherited when her mother passed. She and Joe would spend weeks there and always looked forward to attending the Fryeberg Fair. She collected light houses, Christmas candy-cane ornaments, and was an avid needlepoint/embroidery crafter. She relished the ability to walk down the hill to take a dip and relax on Hilltop Beach at Lake Oscawana.

As the years went by her loving heart grew even bigger, welcoming 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. One of her mantras was, “I want to stay as well as I can for as long as I can”. She achieved this by going to the gym several times a week beginning at the age of 70. She also frequently said, “I want to be useful, not just ornamental.” Her beauty on the outside was matched on the inside by her faithful spirit and loving kindness.

Georgian, Georgie, Mom, Mommy, Grandma Georgie, Ahmy, Great Grandma Georgie, thank you for all you taught us, the strength you modeled, the unconditional love and support you shared, not only with your family but with anyone lucky enough to cross your path. Your family and friends will love you forever and miss you until we see you again. Rest easy and in peace.

Georgie was predeceased by her parents, Leon Valentine and Catherine Perkins West De L’Etoile, her sister’s Yvonne De L’Etoile and Margarite Conley, both her husbands, Erwin Lowenstein and Joseph Gallucci, her son-in-law, Francis Malaspina, and grandson, Peter Malaspina. She is survived by her sisters, Nancy Baldwin, Dianna Bennett, and Gertrude Atkinson, her children Jay Lowenstein (Kristine), Helene Malaspina, David Lowenstein (Alfonso Annotto), and Laura Gallucci, her grandchildren, Katie Lou Lowenstein, Beth Pischke (Rob), Abby Lowenstein (Jared), Teresa Dinis (Abel Gonzalez), Joseph Dinis (Kate), Emily Nesi (Tom), Angela Corcoran (James), Angelo Annotto, and Gabriel Lowenstein, her great-grandchildren, Theo, Julia, and Margaret Pischke, Tessa Mae and Gia Georgie Jo Gonzalez, Daisy and Olive Dinis, Jack and Luke Nesi, and Layne Corcoran.

There will be a celebration of Georgie’s life at The Grace United Methodist Church in Putnam Valley, NY, Sunday, March 29 at 11am, following the regular church service at 10am with a luncheon immediately following in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made/sent to The Grace United Methodist Church, 337 Peekskill Hollow Rd., Putnam Valley, NY 10579
